Aluminium oxide sandblasting is one of the methods used to clean parts after certain heat treatment which leave oxidation/scale on workpieces.
It is also used to prepare the surface to be masked in the case of selective carburizing, in order to promote a better adhesion for the special paint. The resulting finish is one of a matte metallic grey.
