Precipitation hardening Minimize

Precipitation hardening is achieved through controlled heating and cooling.

It generally consists of three steps,  example:  high temperature heating (solution treatment), rapid cooling followed by heating to an intermediary temperature (precipitation / aging).

There are variations of this simplified description to suit various grades of alloys.

More commonly, the last step (precipitation / aging) is sufficient in certain cases.
